No, I am not talking about Bush's war plans which would fall into the #2 =
definition of terrorism. I am referring to the #1 meaning - to fill =
with terror or anxiety - scare. For that is what the US government =
seems to be doing to the American people. I saw on TV how police and =
security forces are pulling over trucks and cars seemingly at random to =
search them for whatever, how they now plan on putting Army troops at =
airports, how they station Coast Guard cutters and navy ships in our =
ports, how they fly war planes over our cities, how they continue to =
station National guard troops in New York even though NYC police could =
do the job, how they keep dwelling on airport security, how they require =
two forms of ID to walk around in certain parts of NYC, and in general =
try to alarm the American people. Even here in Hilo we have a Coast =
Guard ship sitting in the middle of the bay "guarding Hilo" from what I =
am not sure - maybe they think a band of Arab terrorists is going to =
stage a surf-board assault on Hilo beaches and blow up some coconut =
trees. I don't really know, but it seems to me that they may be trying =
to scare or fill with anxiety the American people. Of course there =
might be other reasons - maybe they know something that they are not =
telling us, or maybe we are witnessing a security guard riot in which =
security forces run out and guard anything they can get to for no =
reason. It seems to me that the government is trying to scare the =
American people even further for it seems to be working in Bush's favor =
- he is riding high in the polls, Congress passes measures with no =
opposition, the forces of repression are getting their way, and America =
will be able to establish bases in Afghanistan right on top of a newly =
proposed pipeline to the West (see previous posting by Roger - =
brainfood). In any case, the whole effect seems to be frightening the =
American people (terrorize; 1. to fill with terror or anxiety: scare). =
They are trying to and succeeding at manipulating our minds!
