Fontaine,
Yes, I saw the Letterman show and was really surprised at the emotional
reaction Dan Rather showed. I sure hope Bush isn't stampeded into going to
war with these phantom terrorists. The factoids about Muslims that are being
talked about, including the fact that the young men in those countries can
assemble and clean a bazooka, but not add 1 and 1, is really telling about
the educational deficit among their citizens.
The really meaningful difference between Muslims and Christians in my
opinion is the contrast in the treatment of women betweem the two cultures.
The taliban is currently unwilling to alow women to openly
participate in society and this is the key feature that isolates the male in
the tendency to be warlike. They consider us infidels because we allow women
the freedom to engage in economic and political activities along side the
men in our country and such female freedom is anathama to them. There was
some footage of Lisa Ling, I believe, from "The View" on ABC interviewing
some Muslims wearing the costume of that nation, and she was positively
terrified at their reaction to her. Since her face was showing, they looked
upon her as if she were the worst scum of the earth and she was obviously
frightened.
