Me too!

How about this:

Mike E, JB and Roger are all right. The US's
principal interest in the area is to keep the Arabs
under control, thus hanging onto our oil interests.
Losing Saudi may be the real threat to us. We hear
that our presence in Saudi (Muslim soil) is the source
of much of Muslim rage against us (plus other
dastardly deeds of the bad American political/economic
dominance, right?) So we likely aren't going to be
able to do it.

So, C Powell, working with the UN wants to prolong the
war to gain more time to work out who will, and how
the US wants the mideast to be run. Big mess right
now, could all fall apart, and a decisive American
victory would play into the hands of the extremists
who want to topple American presence there.

Rumsfeld on the other hand, is still working under
'operation infinite justice' which more of us are
sympathetic, as we hear about 2 deaths of innocent
workers in the US post office linked to terrorists'
activity. He wants to get it over, claim victory.

Then I hear that the US sent 3 billion in aid to
Afganistan over some years. What? Where did it go,
they don't even have fresh water supplies. We created
a militant society there, and there's not much hope of
reversing that any time soon, although we all hope so.
Keep dropping the food packets I say, send in some
medicine. But a stable and prosperous Afganistan
isn't going to do us much good, except to keep it from
being the super tough breeding and training ground for
terrorists militias.

Jon is probably right also that the US is hated
everywhere, for whatever reasons, some legit, some
just sour grapes. We westerns got our act together,
and it has proven beneficial to the majority of us
individually. I think most Americans do realize that
we are greedily consuming what's left of this
magnificant globe, and some are actually trying real
hard to make better things happen in that respect. We
are good people, and I am in agreement with tele that
it doesn't do us much good to self-deprecate in this
situation. Killing is condoned in the Islamic religion
in some contexts, but so is it in Christianity, ie the
death penalty in this country. Our home-grown
extremists have taken to killing innocents in abortion
clinics in religious fervor for the taking of
innocents...on and on. Am I confused? Some people
find religion comforting and a source of peace, I
don't.

Like Roger said, what to do, what to do.

Carol had it right, keep our hearts and minds on
goodness for the whole of humanity, in consensus
radiating to the unfortunates. I will, but I sure
enjoyed the onion spoof piece on the WTC and Pentagon
attackers finding themselves in hell (not paradise),
eating their own boiled entrails, yes, that ought to
do it.

Peace and Love
Connie

Sorry for the long personal rant. "Uh, back to work
CC."
