the end game?

I agree with you. Bush+ Jiang = Nightmare. A new, American license to
whup up on what they want to, now it is just a matter of semantics. Pity
the poor Tibetans.
My pre-9 1101 fears were that the Bush crew would whip up some excuse to
pursue their fundamentally Facist policies. Part of my rage at the
Taliban/et al, is that these idiots have handed this issue on a gold platter
to what I consider an illegal government sitting in Washington.
However, a lot of people despised Churchill (hardly a raving Liberal by any
standard) yet considered him usefull for the job in WWII. He was promptly
given the boot in 1946. So....he came over here and delivered his "Iron
Curtain" speech which galvanized the US (along with our own little cadre of
ex-Nazis) into starting the cold war. Incidentally, current events are a
partial byproduct of his/other Brits pollicies of the early part of the 20th
Century.
As I told Jon, as messy as things are, military action against the Taliban
is a necessity. We and our children can become passive ducks in a
religious shooting gallery. At the same time we must re-evaluate our
foreign policy (if oil, then good) and spread some of our wealth around the
poorest nations of the world. Poverty and ignorance are the real enemy, but
we can't fight them without reducing the Taliban/etc to managable size.
I thank you for understanding the points I was trying to make.
Cheers.
Wayne

Wayne:
No China will not be marching into Afghanistan to the tune of "Onward
Christian Solders" - they will continue to march to the tune of "The East is
Red". Every year China has over 2500 bombing incidents inside its borders,
many of them in Xinjiang. China will now be calling these unhappy bombers
"terrorist" instead of count-revolutionists. And, since they are fighting
"terrorists" they will be able to justify the use of extreme force against
them. Remember the closing scenes of the movie "Tiananmen '89" in which the
tanks move in and mow down the kids in the dark of the night. Well, that is
what they would like more freedom to do. The "deal" with China is that Bush
will look the other way and say something like "way to go Jiang, get them
terrorists 'dead or alive', glad to have you on our side in the War on
Terrorists". China wants the freedom to do anything it wants in Tibet and
Xinjiang without criticism from America - don't expect to see the Dali Lama
to be paying any visits to the White House.
As to China's dealings with Afghanistan - they have already been giving some
aid to the Taliban. If the Taliban can pay cash then "private" corporations
of the Peoples Liberation Army (what a misnomer!) will continue to sell arms
to them - they need the money to fight terrorism. Now that China, America,
and Russia are linking hands to keep the downtrodden in their place you can
imagine the world afterwards. Can happen.
