Excuse me, Jon, but I am not sure what your point is.
My statement essentially stated that we should exterminate the Taliban, not
the Afghanistani. It is unlikely that this will actually happen as it is
unlikely that innocent Afghanistani will not be killed in our military
actions there. I also said, and have said repeatedly over the past month,
that we need to mount a major campaign against the poverty and starvation in
the region and that we can not hope that we, or anyone else, could establish
some kind of equitable society there without massive amounts of capital and
other levels of support. However, this cannot be accomplished as long as
the Taliban/El Queda exist in any viable, and disruptive form.
But let me go further. I remember the fear that existed in the US during
WWII. Any argument that suggests that we, or our children or grandchildren,
should go to sleep at night in a state of fear, or that parents should worry
that their children will die in some terrorist action (as happening in
Israel) is intolerable. Regardless of our past trangressions as a nation,
American children are as innocent as any others and we have a moral and
ethical duty to protect them. Do I want the US to turn into a military
state, absolutely not. Do I want to see a Pax Americana settle in over the
world, absolutely not. Do I want to see a bunch of religious zealots and
their neolithic beliefs disrupt what is left of my life and that of my kin.
I will not apologize for my feelings in this matter. If you don't like
them, I can live with that. I have spent my entire adult life defending
Civil rights and social injustice in whatever way I could, including being a
target in front of theaters in Austin. I frankly don't care whether it is
"fair" or not for this bunch of goons and bandits to bomb the WTC because
of our support of Israel or because we used Saudi Arabia as a staging area
against another goon, Hussein.
To haul out the old saw "two wongs don't make a right" is a rather lame
argument for you, Jon. It both dismisses the real problem and endeavours a
slick jab at the other party. Please don't slip into the convenient thought
patterns you evidently think I have.
Cheers.
Wayne

Two wrongs don't make a right. You know that,Wayne, and besides-- our
current incursions into Afghanistan have nothing to do with the status of
women there, which I certainly don't support. Read my current response to
Carol's letter to american Muslims.
