Sacred priestess or prostitute?

It would be more appropriate to say "Jon M. Ford quotes." What I wrote was
that belly dancing has a very long history, and wasn't invented by Muslims,
and was originally related to fertility cults. What I might have written was
that as male leaders took power in formerly matriarchal goddess-worshipping
societies, some of the older rituals like the sacred fertility dances were
turned into entertainment for men in seraglios.
