Jack-- a future policy would be in order--it isn't very clear right now, and
Laird was admitted under the old, murky policy, around six-eight months ago
as I recall--he was just playing possum until recently. But that means in a
sense one could say he has more seniority than you do as a list-member, so I
wouldn't even consider him probationary! Anyway, that's why I think his
expulsion was unfair, as it involves changing a policy abruptly in an
ex-post-facto manner. I wouldn't be the one to propose a particular change
for the future, as I have too many enemies on the list who are suspcious of
my ideas, but I do believe there does need to be a clearer procedure for a)
admitting a "probationary member" unknown to all but a few of the members
and b) expelling a probationary member c) Putting even a "regular" members
on probation for grievous acts such as "flaming" fellow members. I also
believe strongly that any such procedural change, if others feel it is
necessary, should be put to the group
for a majority approval of voting members.
