**** Hands On: Apple's Final Cut Pro X <http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2387491,00.asp>
Michael Muchmore, PC Magazine

The upgrade is a complete from-the-ground-up-rewrite that takes advantage of modern 64-bit multicore CPUs, and is a radical departure for the increasingly popular software suite.

**** Apple Under Fire For Pulling Intifada App <http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/apple-under-fire-for-pulling-intifada-app-2302044.html>
Catrina Stewart, The Independent

The decision by Apple to purge the app has been criticised by pro-Palestinian campaigners, who claim that the term "Intifada", used to refer to a mass uprising, is not necessarily a call to violence. Apple said the app "violates the developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people".

**** Patents Don’t Equal Products <http://www.loopinsight.com/2011/06/22/patents-dont-equal-products/>
Shawn King, The Loop

I firmly believe this is an example of a patent being applied for simply to have the patent, not because Apple believes the technology has any real world possibilities. Time will tell but if you’re a betting man, I’ll take bets that this technology will never see the light of day.

**** Apple's Response To The Final Cut Pro X Release <http://www.winstonhearn.com/home/2011/6/23/apples-response-to-the-final-cut-pro-x-release.html>

Here's what I predict we will see next week sometime.

**** Final Cut Pro X: My First Impressions <http://kino-eye.com/2011/06/23/final-cut-pro-x-my-first-impressions/>
Kino-Eye.com

The day Final Cut Pro 7 stops working due to an OS X update or new hardware incompatibility will force a change, but for now, it’s still smooth sailing with a lot of underlying anxiety that comes with editing on a dead platform.

**** How Apple Re-cut Final Cut Pro For The Better <http://www.macworld.com/article/160680/2011/06/apple_recut_final_cut_pro_x.html%23lsrc.rss_main>
Serenity Caldwell, Macworld

But I think the majority of editors will embrace Final Cut, after Apple spends the time to fix what it needs to. (It always does, even if it takes awhile.) And once that happens, I can’t imagine Final Cut Pro X as anything other than the poster child for the next decade of the editing industry.

**** Why 1970 Deserves Its 15 Minutes Of Fame <http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/24/books/fire-and-rain-by-david-browne-book-review.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss>
Scott Timberg, New York Times

The Beatles broke up, the Weathermen accidentally torched a Greenwich Village brownstone, and pop music went really soft. (Except when it didn’t.) That’s the tale, in a nutshell, told by “Fire and Rain: The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, CSNY, and the Lost Story of 1970,” which proposes to wrap together a year in the life of several loosely connected artists.

Bloomberg

Singapore's inflation exceeded economists' estimates in May as food and transportation costs increased, supporting the central bank's decision to allow the currency to rise further.

Singapore, which uses the exchange rate as its main tool to manage inflation, has allowed its currency to appreciate to a record to contain price gains.

**** Underemployment And Influx Of Foreigners <http://www.temasekreview.com/2011/06/24/underemployment-and-influx-of-foreigners/>

It is time we instill common sense into our local employment culture and I hope the PAP government will be resolved in tackling the well-beings of our people instead of paying lips service.

**** Singapore – The New City Of Love <http://blog.outlet.com.sg/2011/06/singapore-the-new-city-of-love/>
The Outlet Blog

We may not have French accents or be as expressive with our affections but we’ve got plenty of romance in our sunny city, if we just take the time to find it. Besides, who was it that said romance is not about doing but about being with the person you love? Oh wait, that could have been me.

**** Dr Tony Tan: The 'Approved' Candidate? <http://article14.blogspot.com/2011/06/dr-tony-tan-approved-candidate.html>
Article 14

He was amongst the Plaintiffs that sued Tang Liang Hong for defamation. He is currently the Chairman of Singapore Press Holdings. The combination of these two facts hardly qualifies him as a defender of free speech. He certainly is not and I am sure he would not pretend to be one.

**** Who Do Our Civil Servants Serve? <http://theonlinecitizen.com/2011/06/who-do-our-civil-servants-serve/>
Tan Meng Lee, The Online Citizen

What constitutes an optimal relationship between the political and administrative leadership of Singapore? Is our Civil Service expected to follow a certain set of rules and standards? Who audits and enforces any breach of such standards? Is this within the realm of responsibility of the Council of Presidential Advisers? Is our Civil Service already politicized?

**** Media-induced Collective Delusion <http://www.yoursdp.org/index.php/news/singapore/4869-media-induced-collective-delusion>
Singapore Democratic Party

The sad state of affairs is a reflection of the political-moral-economic situation in which we find ourselves. It did not occur overnight. It took years to develop and it was possible only because the PAP used the media to tranquilize Singaporeans into a state of political stupor.

Without a free media, the situation in this country cannot and will not improve. This is the why the SDP fights so hard for the civil liberties of our people. This is why we continue to call for the abolition of the NPPA so that news organisations can be set up in Singapore, free of PAP control.

**** Needy: Pay $10 To Get $6 Back? <http://theonlinecitizen.com/2011/06/needy-pay-10-to-get-6-back/>
Leong Sze Hian, The Online Citizen

Since the last time GST was raised from 5 to 7 per cent with the reason that it was to help the poor, why it that NTUC, and organisations like the South-West Community Development Council (CDC) had to raise $500,000 to set up a new fund to help residents that need help in areas which are not covered by the existing help schemes, like Comcare, CDC Community Care Fund, etc?

**** Singapore, Indonesia Reaffirm Defence Cooperation Agreement <http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1136959/1/.html>

On Friday, Singapore and Indonesia re-affirmed their commitment to the Extradition Treaty and Defence Cooperation Agreement which was signed by the two countries in 2005. [The two foreign ministers] said they'll wait for a more conducive climate for the treaties to be eventually ratified.

**** Singapore Solution Could Work On Drug Dealers Here <http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/singapore-solution-could-work-on-drug-dealers-here-124478419.html>
W. Gifford-Jones, Winnipeg Free Press

Our weak-kneed politicians who have no idea how to curb drug addiction should visit Singapore. Those would be tax dollars well-spent. En route, they would get the first powerful message when a small card is handed to them aboard the plane prior to landing. It warns, "Death to drug traffickers."

I can already hear critics howling "blue murder" about the Singapore solution. They need not worry, as it will not happen in North America. Unfortunately, there is no Lee Kuan Yew who has the vision and intestinal fortitude to enact tough legislation. Rather, we have namby-pamby officials who cannot see the medical and social chaos of a "no action" plan. We cannot cure all the addicts who are now a part of our society. But the Singapore plan could stop their cancerous growth.
