Jason Snell, Macworld

If you’re running a Mac powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor or an Intel Xeon processor, your Mac is 64-bit capable. And Snow Leopard runs 64-bit applications regardless of whether it’s booting into a 64-bit or 32-bit kernel.

Cyrus Farivar, Macworld

Sure, it doesn’t have all the glitz of a shiny new unibody MacBook, but an older-generation MacBook might just do the trick for a lot less money. Heck, you’d be surprised at how well an older iBook G4 can still handle just about everything that you might want to do. Here’s how to make sure your money is well spent.

Andy Kessler, Wall Street Journal

What this episode really uncovers is that AT&T is dying. AT&T is dragging down the rest of us by overcharging us for voice calls and stifling innovation in a mobile data market critical to the U.S. economy.

**** Blood, Sweat, And Words <http://www.incharacter.org/article.php?article=160>
Joseph Epstein, In Character

To be able to sit home and put words together in what one hopes are charming or otherwise striking sentences is, no matter how much tussle may be involved, lucky work, a privileged job. The only true grit connected with it ought to arrive when, thinking to complain about how hard it is to write, one is smart enough to shut up and silently grit one’s teeth.

**** Education, And Even More Discrimination Against Citizens <http://mrwangsaysso.blogspot.com/2009/08/education-and-even-more-discrimination.html>
Mr Wang Says So

PRs in Singapore can send their young children to a local primary school, or to an international school. The PRs have the right to choose. If they choose a local primary school, then they enjoy the same priority as Singaporean citizens, in the admissions process. Alternatively, PRs can send their children to an international school in Singapore.

However, Singaporean citizens do not have that option. They are not allowed to send their young children to international schools.

**** System To Curb Jail Abuse <http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking+News/Singapore/Story/STIStory_419117.html>
Zakir Hussain, Straits Times

The prisoner who was beaten and sodomised by his cellmates last year had many opportunities during the period of assault to report them, said senior minister of state (home affairs and law) Ho Peng Kee on Wednesday.

'Unfortunately, for reasons best known to him, he chose to remain silent,' Associate Professor Ho said in Parliament when replying to three MPs who had asked about prison abuse.

Stop blaming the victim, Ho.

**** The Real “strategic Purpose” Of Tharman <http://temasekreview.com/?p=12122>
The Temasek Review

Mr Tharman has indeed served his “strategic purpose” well by acting as a shield to block the arrows on behalf of his boss who was the preceding finance minister.

**** Tharman’s “public Interest” Remark Removed By Straits Times <http://theonlinecitizen.com/2009/08/tharmans-public-interest-remark-removed-by-straits-times/>
The Online Citizen

The Straits Times published an ad verbatim transcript of the exchanges in Parliament betwen Mr Tharman and MPs. So, why was Mr Tharman’s “public interest” remark edited out of the transcript?

**** Truth Hurts! <http://feedmetothefish.blogspot.com/2009/08/truth-hurts.html>

So the National Pledge is nothing more than a high faluting - pompous; bombastic; haughty; pretentious "aspiration".

**** Our Ministers Say The Darndest Things <http://yoursdp.org/index.php/news/singapore/2699-our-ministers-say-the-darndest-things>
Singapore Democrats

Our leaders can say the darnedest things and they often do. In just the last few days, some gems have fallen from the mouths of our mighty and ministerial.

If they had been in a democratic society, they would have been given a good political spanking by the public. But, of course, this is Singapore - land of low falutin ideas where people are seen (working, of course) and not heard.

**** P65 MPs Will Be Blogging On <http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BForum/Story/STIStory_419429.html>

The beauty of the new media is that it promotes diverse views and interests. Accordingly, tools of engagement must also evolve.
